You are an animal, chosen by a magus to accompany them through their life.

Sharing the life energy of the magus, you were traveling through the world finding the right place. In that place you both decided to call home, you focus on big quest the magus was given and their personal goal they want to achieve during their lifetime.

The time flows quite fast, the relations with the royals or nearby villagers may shift. The home itself can be crumbling or, on the contrary, enhanced by numerous staff of servants that fill all the orders of the magus. The servants themselves may be loyal or plotting against their master, following the orders of someone else.

Join the magus, help them to fulfill their goals. Or be an independent observer and watch the life of the magus to fail miserably.

The Magus of Mistborrow is a solo journaling RPG. To play the game you need a set of seven standard polyhedral dice: d4, d6, d8, d10, d12, d20, and d%.
Assign the dice to five aspects of magus's life and try to enhance them to their top value.

There are various aspects that affect magus's life:

  • relation to the villagers
  • state of the home
  • loyalty of the servants
  • status of the given quest
  • status of personal lifetime goal

They all interact with each other, resulting in various outcomes. Let your imagination be free in interpretations, how those aspects interact with each other and what impact that will have on the life of magus.

Each year one of those aspects raises or lowers its fulfillment status, leading to the acomplishment of magus's goals or sudden end of their efforts.

  • It's not clear that dice-sizes are assigned to each aspect; when you say "roll them one after another then assign them" it's unclear if you're assigning each rolled number or each die to an aspect.
  • "choose up to two aspect dice... from above as close as possible."  Does that mean the size of the aspect die, or what the aspect die currently shows?  IE does a d6 showing "2" count as a "6" or a "2" ?
  • "if the age of the magus allows it..."  we only know the magus's apparent age, and how do we know when that age "allows" or forbids things?
  • "when you succeed to fulfil..." how do we know when an aspect is fulfilled?  Is it when that aspect's die size increases past d12 ?

There's good stuff here, just need clearer instructions.

Hi, Mozai, thanks for questions, I'll gladly answer them.

  • I'll reword the assignment rule to make it clear that player is assigning the dice themselves, not their values. I can see now that it's kinda unclear as its more common to work with dice values.
  • "Then choose up to two aspect dice, whose sum of the sides approaches the rolled value from above as close as possible." - I am sorry, I really though that "whose sum of the sides approaches the rolled value" si clear enough. English is not my first language, if you find better wording for this, I'll update it as well.
  • Age of the magus is kept on the d% die as well as aspects are determined by their dice. Saying that, if you cannot raise the d% die by 10 as you passed a hundred, you cannot play a Time flow action, as your magus may be dead by that time.
  • Fulfillment of the aspect is declared with their dice being raised to the maximum value. I'll make that clear as well.

Thanks again for your questions, it will make the game more clear!
