Oathlords

Fulfill the Oath. Fall with Honor.

In Oathlords, you take control of a noble who swore the oath to defend the kingdom at all costs, but you keep failing. The king is already dead.  The kingdom rots before your eyes. The dark forces spread under your watch.

You must fulfill your oath.

The Lords

Each Lord has distinct personal traits, and so has their House.

• Blade and Heart reflect your personal vice and virtue.
• Coin and Banner show your House's power and the loyalty of your people.

Use these traits to partake in trials. You were once a hero; you know how to behave at a royal court and you remember, what to do in the darkest dungeons. Recall those times and perform legendary deeds to overcome even the impossible. But beware, for every failure marks you, and the descent is inevitable.

The Narrator

The state of the kingdom is given. But what are the imminent threats?

• Create three dangers. Assign each to a card suit.
• When a black JQK is drawn during event resolution, an omen foreshadows the threat.
• Let all omens of one threat be fulfilled, and the threat comes true.

The Lords are not alone on their quest, for you may introduce other characters and notable items. Every time the ♥-card is drawn, someone important enters the story, and with every ♦-card an interesting item is found. Some can help the nobles on their quest, while some may be a burden.

When the stars align, artifacts of great power can be found. Will you seize them and use them to fulfill the oath? Or pass them to your own descendants, who take the oath in your place?
